New Community’s Youth Services Department hosted a Black History Month Celebration at the NCC Neighborhood Center, 56-68 Hayes St., Newark, on March 1. The children in NCC’s after school programs participated in the event by reading poetry and sharing facts about Black figures who have made significant contributions, including Simone Biles, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jackson, Muhammad Ali and Beyonce. One group performed sections of The Wiz and another danced.
