Before Newark students returned to school this fall, city officials delivered brand new backpacks to children around Newark, including a group of students living at New Community Harmony House, which offers transitional housing to homeless families and is located at 278 South Orange Ave. West Ward Councilman Joseph McCallum, seen in the first photo on the far right, greeted children and parents who eagerly awaited for their arrival and handed out backpacks. Representatives from Mayor Ras Baraka’s office were also on hand to distribute backpacks to Harmony House families and generally address constituent concerns.
