New Community Corporation is offering free tax preparation services at its Family Resource Success Center to qualified individuals throughout this tax season. The center is located in the Pathmark Shopping Center in Newark at 131-185 Bergen Street. Appointments are necessary and can be set up by calling 973 565-9500.
The tax preparers are from the Internal Revenue Services’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program, which is celebrating its 43rd year. The program offers free tax help to people who cannot afford professional assistance, said Jacqueline Piper, the IRS tax specialist overseeing New Community’s VITA site. Generally, that means individuals earning $57,000 or less.
