University Hospital’s new CEO and president, John Kastanis, spent his first holiday season as head of Newark’s largest hospital serving homeless families at New Community’s transitional housing facility.
New Community CEO Richard Rohrman met with Kastanis prior to University Hospital serving a holiday meal to Harmony House and Rohrman expressed deep appreciation for hospital staff hosting the occasion.
“I am personally grateful to John Kastanis and his team for visiting Harmony House and spending time during the holiday season with residents from our transitional housing facility for the homeless,” Rohrman said. “University Hospital is not only our neighbor but one of New Community’s key partners in Newark and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with the hospital and its new leadership in an effort to better serve our residents,” he said.

NCC Hosts Youth Empowerment Summit

When Abdul Williams was a young child, he had a near death experience. One day, a small candy lodged in his throat and he began to choke. His mother, a nurse, called 911 and soon a police officer responded to the scene.
“A white police officer came in and saved my life,” said Williams, who credits the man with inspiring him to join the ranks. Williams is a detective lieutenant at the Linden Police Department.
Williams said he shared his personal story to illustrate that despite rising animosity towards law enforcement, cops are not the enemy. “It’s a very tumultuous time between police and minority communities,” he said. |

Wendy Williams Brings Holiday Cheer To
NCC Families |
It’s not every day that Wendy Williams serves you Christmas dinner. More than 200 children and parents from New Community attended a holiday party at St. Joseph Plaza hosted by Williams’ charity called the Hunter Foundation, for a memorable evening of holiday merriment.
The guests of honor were families from Harmony House, a transitional housing facility for homeless families, and both Community Hills and Harmony House early learning centers.
“I’m so glad to be here with you,” Williams said, upon making her surprise entrance at St. Joseph Plaza. |
