Hispanic Heritage Celebrated

New Community’s growing population of Hispanic residents were among those displaying their ethnic pride in song, dance, colorful costumes, poetry and even cuisine during NCC’s Second Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.

Held at New Community Commons Senior in Newark, the spirited event highlighted the cultures of countries represented in the residential and employee population at NCC, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Peru, the Dominican Republic and the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico.

Architects in Awe of NCC Headquarters

Architects and other international professionals interested in the preservation of historic structures visited New Community’s Newark headquarters recently and walked away highly impressed by the adaptive use of a historic, 19th century brownstone church into professional office space and community programming, including a Friday Night jazz club.

“To take a consecrated church and convert it into a use that was more relevant is quite moving,” said Hector Abrahams, who owns his
own architectural firm in Sydney, Australia.
