Formerly Homeless Single Mom To Share Her Story At Charity Golf Outing
Newark, NJ (June 30, 2015) — Formerly homeless single mom Khalilah Boyd will share her story on becoming homeless and how her family found refuge at Harmony House at New Community’s 21st Annual Golf Outing on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey.
Proceeds will benefit Harmony House, New Community’s transitional housing facility for the homeless in Newark, as well as more than 3,000 disadvantaged children served by New Community’s youth and education programs.
“New Community’s annual golf outing not only brings our committed business and community partners together, but provides a window into the amazing services provided at NCC through hearing personal stories,” said Tracey Battles, New Community philanthropy officer and head of the event committee.
For Boyd, 34, Harmony House played a key role in stabilizing the living situation for herself and two of her sons so that she could secure a job as a preschool teacher and administrative assistant and search for permanent housing.
“I’m here to attest that the Harmony House was and has been a great help,” Boyd said.
Golfers will tee off at 1 p.m. at the Montclair Golf Club, 25 Prospect Avenue in West Orange, which is hosting the event. Players will have an opportunity to interact with youth from New Community’s education programs and also hear personal testimonials from Harmony House residents such as Boyd. The evening reception, which begins at 5:30 p.m., includes a cocktail hour, silent auction, dinner, testimonials and remarks from New Community officials.
