CEO Aims To Grow And Strengthen New Community

New Community's CEO, Richard Rohrman, has outlined his priorities for the year 2014 and is aiming to bolster the non-profit's financial standing, complete a corporate strategic plan, explore new areas of growth and build the internal workings of the organization.

"We want to push the envelope and think about our future, 5 to 10 years down the road," said Rohrman during a meeting with department heads and managers at St. Joseph Plaza, NCC headquarters, a day after the New Year began.

A Better Life Gets a $260,000 Boost

A recently awarded $260,000 grant from The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York will assist New Community in financing "A Better Life," a project that will provide 20 units of permanent supportive housing, 3 transient units for the chronically homeless and a unit for a live-in supervisor, in addition to services like mental health.

New Community Federal Credit Union submitted the application for funding on behalf of New Community Corporation, which expects to break ground on the project this year.

Still Going Strong at 80

On the third floor of New Community’s Extended Care Center, one will find the woman everyone respectfully calls, “Ms. Ruby.” And she commands every ounce of it. After all, there aren’t many 80-year-olds around doing the work of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Haynes, winner of NCC’s President’s Service Award, has worked at Extended Care for nearly 25 years and is the second oldest NCC employee after Madge Wilson, NCC Outreach Coordinator, who turns 81 this April.
