Building Trades Specialists

The New Community Workforce Development Center’s Building Trades program prepares students for high-paying, career-oriented jobs in the construction and building trades industries. The program uses cutting-edge technology and a qualified teaching staff to prepare students for the limitless opportunities in these multi-billion dollar industries.

Graduates of the Building Trades program have the opportunity to work for unions or for non-union and prevailing wage contractors in a number of specialties including plumbing, electrical wiring, heating & air ventilation, roofing, landscaping, masonry, painting, carpentry and pipe fitting.

Students are trained to work as Assistant Building Superintendents and can enter a variety of construction and building trades apprenticeship tracks. They learn by examining the theories, principals and procedures of different areas of the industry. Students can specialize in one of four areas—electrical, carpentry, plumbing or blue prints—to receive more intensive training and instruction on the respective national codes.

Internships provide hands-on experience and students can also become members of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) where they will be exposed to more information about the building trades. All students are required to take Red Cross certified First Aid and CPR training to meet Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards.
