Home Friends
The Home Friends program provides thousands of hours of services every month to Newark residents living in the North and Central Wards and parts of the East and West Wards. Home Friends provide two-six hours of assistance every week with a range of household chores. Most clients are over the age of sixty and are disabled.
The services include light housekeeping, laundry, local errands, food shopping, escorts to medical appointments, meal preparation, and help reading mail, writing letters and paying bills. Perhaps most important is the social contact and warmth that Home Friends bring to the homes of the elderly and disabled. Home Friends visits are funded by the Essex County Division on Aging.
The Home Friends often refer clients to other critical services, such
as a higher level of service, Food Stamps and housing in NCC Senior
