Essex Valley Visiting Nursing

The Essex Valley Visiting Nurse Association and its affiliate, Care at Home, joined the New Community Network in 2000. EVVNA, which has provided home nursing and other health care services since 1902, serves 500 clients. It provides a range of home health services including visiting nurses, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, nutritional services, medical social services and medical equipment and supplies. EVVNA serves patients of all ages from pediatric to geriatric.

EVVNA’s patients live primarily in Newark, East Orange, Orange and Irvington. Its employees are generally residents of the communities they serve. The Essex Valley VNA is licensed by the New Jersey State Department of Health and certified as a Home Health Agency by Medicare and Medicaid. It is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

EVVNA provides continuity of care to patients after they are discharged from the hospital and as an alternative to more costly long-term hospital stays and nursing home care. Care is provided by a team of qualified health professionals working together to help clients gain a maximum level of wellness.

In addition to its visiting nurse services, EVVNA provides patients with rehabilitation therapy, counseling, crisis intervention, referrals and other services. Registered dieticians help develop therapeutic diets for patients. Home Health Aides assist with personal care and other aspects of daily life.

The Essex Valley VNA also runs a number of programs supported by the New Jersey Department of Health. Its HIV Home Care program provides skilled nursing, case management, respiratory therapy, physical therapy and other services to uninsured patients suffering from AIDS who are eligible for home care. Its Adolescent Parenting Program, for mothers seventeen or younger, provides a range of support services and refers participants to support services such as job training and GED classes.
