St. Rose of Lima

St. Rose of Lima School, located on Gray Street, is part of the St. Rose of Lima Parish. It has long been a key educational component of the New Community Network. St. Rose of Lima provides an education to more 290 youngsters from Kindergarten to eighth grade. The school has served local children since it was founded in 1891.

Today’s students are all minorities and are taught by a multi-cultural faculty. New Community Board President Arthur Wilson, St. Rose’s principal, heads a dedicated staff that receives volunteer assistance from a dedicated group of nearly 100 volunteers. The New Community Foundation has raised money for capital improvements to the school.

St. Rose maintains the highest standards of quality education. Parents are encouraged to participate in the life of the institution.

Members of the Home-School Association hold an annual fundraiser to benefit the school and volunteer for other activities. The strong curriculum is enhanced by partnerships with Essex County Community College, Bloomfield College, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Seton Hall University, Rutgers Law School, UMDNJ, Newark College of Arts & Science and the New Jersey Institute of Technology. St. Rose is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

NCC founder Monsignor William J. Linder, who is pastor of the parish, has established a number of vehicles to supplement tuition money. The Monsignor William J. Linder Scholarship Fund defrays the cost of tuition by at least fifty percent for more than 75 students at St. Rose of Lima School.
