When Leslie and Renee Duncan exchanged their wedding vows last October at New Community's Douglas Homes in Newark, they promised to stick by one another in sickness and in health. A special birthday mass for New Community founder Monsignor William J. Linder was attended by more than 500 guests and punctuated by the sacred musical arrangements of Mary Lou Williams, the late American jazz pianist and composer whom Monsignor considered a "personal friend."
Before the dishes were even touched, the aromas wafting throughout the NCC Neighborhood Center provided visitors with a great anticipation of what was to come. New Community's 'Men Who Cook' benefit, which supported the Monsignor William J. Linder Scholarship Fund, proved to be a real delight to the culinary senses.
