NCC Nursing School Seeing Increase
in Male Students

New Community's School of Practical Nursing has experienced a significant increase in the number of male students, many of whom see the pursuit of an LPN license as a route to a stable, long-term, career in the medical field at a time of continued volatility in the job market.

Ask Harmony House caseworker Linda Washington what she remembers most about Adam and Nia Natal and she will tell you plainly what seemed to set the couple apart. "They were always highly motivated," she said. "They didn't like relying on others and wanted badly to be self-sufficient." It was a little over two years ago that the couple and their two young boys, Benjamin, now 4, and Gerald, 3, passed through New Community's Harmony House transitional housing facility, where they received not only a place to live, but childcare, counseling, educational and employment assistance.
Adult Learning Program Spells Success

Since she arrived from Haiti in 1987, Bertange Severe has been determined to make a better life for herself and those around her. She has been teaching Sunday School at her church and she also now tutors adult students in math.
