New Community is proud to announce that we now offer enhanced services for nursing home residents diagnosed with either Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. We are located on the first floor of the New Community Extended Care Facility.

What Is Dementia And Alzheimer’s Disease?
Dementia is a general term for loss of memory and other mental abilities severe enough to interfere with one’s daily life. Alzheimer’s disease is at type of dementia that is a progressive and fatal brain disease characterized by memory loss and behavioral problems that affect work, lifelong hobbies and social life, according to the Alzheimer’s Association. Early symptoms of Alzheimer’s can include difficulty remembering recent conversations, apathy and depression, while later symptoms are marked by poor judgement, mood swings, confusion, and difficulty walking, speaking or swallowing.

How Will The Enhanced Services Benefit My Loved One With Alzheimer’s Or Dementia?
The Alzheimer’s And dementia services at New Community Extended Care provide personalized, highly interactive activities catered to the functional level of each resident. Each day will be filled with stimulating activities involving music and crafts or games like ring toss as well as therapeutic activities including massages. Lunch and dinner are served to residents and staff oversee the administration of medications. Our offerings include the following services:

Nursing and Specialized Care: Individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia are cared for by a full-time Registered Nurse, certified nursing assistants and activities staff from the nursing home—all who have undergone extensive training to prepare for the specific challenges and needs of our residents facing Alzheimer’s or dementia. Our multi-lingual staff at New Community Extended Care Facility is always ready to help. Our staff speak several languages including Spanish, French and Creole.

Medical Services: We offer medication monitoring and supervision, physician assessment, medical device referrals, and toileting.

Stimulating and Therapeutic Activities: A variety of recreational activities fill each day as trained staff, supervised by a certified Alzheimer’s and dementia professional, provide both stimulating and therapeutic activities and exercises in a safe and structured environment.

Meal Service: Lunch, dinner and snacks are served to residents each day.

One-on-One Interaction: Our staff is well-trained and equipped with the knowledge of how to care for residents living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, including the unique challenges relating to communication, socialization and behavior of a diagnosed resident.

Support For Caregivers
We specialize in care management of various health conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our facility offers Alzheimer’s Support Group meetings for caregivers on the first Saturday of each month.

Clients enjoy safe and productive days and return to the warmth and familiarity of home each night.  Family caregivers can feel confident that excellent medical and therapeutic care will be provided by our experienced staff of healthcare professionals.  Also, we promote recovery from disabling conditions, help clients regain skills needed to care for themselves, keep them active and intellectually stimulated throughout the day.
