NCC Youth Leadership Grad Earns Ph.D“My experiences at NCC gave me the opportunity to learn and grow and now I have my Ph.D!”, says Tramanesha Moore, Ph.D.
Some people set out on a path, not knowing exactly where they want to wind up. That was hardly the case with Traymanesha Moore, who had a clear goal in mind and carefully navigated her way to success.
Born in Newark and raised in Irvington, she attended New Community’s youth leadership programs.
In 1999, upon graduation from Irvington High School, Moore attended then graduated from Rutgers University with honors. She attended Michigan State University where she received her Ph.D. in Curriculum, Teaching, and Educational Policy in May 2008.
Today, “Dr. Moore” serves as coordinator of the Rutgers Future Scholars Program, which introduces first generation, low income and academically talented middle school students to the opportunities provided by a college education.
“New Community Corporation provided me with a way to remain grounded and connected with home. I have always believed that education is an empowerment tool. So I hope that I have done my part to pass that on so that youth understand that they can be leaders now,” Moore said.
