Success Stories
New Community Corporation has steadfastly remained true to its mission for nearly thirty-five years. Its programs and initiatives are available twenty-four-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, 365 days a year. NCCs housing and economic development initiatives have remade the face of the Central Ward and its programs, ranging from education and job training to health care and social services, have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people.
Take some time to learn more about some of the people whose lives have been impacted by New Community:
Michael Olisa calls the Youth Automotive Training Program that helped him on his way to a promising career, one of the best programs in the country.
Rachel Brown DeMoreno ended up homelessliving at the Newark YMCA with her four children when she suffered a stroke and was unable to work. Now back on her feet, she believes that without faith and New Community, I would have nothing.
Cynthia Ward lost her job and then she lost her home because of a gambling problem. She says NCCs Harmony House offered her a second chance at life.
And, take a moment to learn about some of the projects and programs that have uplifted the soul of a community:
NCCs Community Hills brings affordable homeownership to the Central Ward. Jason Sehorn, the New York Giants cornerback who is helping single mothers with their down payments, says of NCC, You rebuild a community. You dont just put people in a house.
Gateway To Work helps thousands make the transition from dependence on welfare to the independence of work. A recent study found a 400 percent return on investment to the community.
The Youth Automotive Training Center, a partnership with Ford and Hillside Auto Mall, is preparing young people for careers as automotive technicians. New Communitys Pathmark, in its Neighborhood Shopping Center, was the first supermarket built in Newark in a generation.
